Learn about Medicare rebates, billing transparency, and what’s included in your genetic evaluation before booking.

We want you to be as informed as possible about the anticipated out-of-pocket costs for you and your family prior to booking your first consultation. Progenics provides a highly specialised service for patients. Evaluation by a geneticist is necessarily time-consuming and detailed. First consultations are typically 45 - 60 minutes in duration. Evaluation involves a thorough review of yours and your family’s medical history, discussion of concepts related to genetic conditions and genetic testing including implications for health/life insurance in Australia, and review and explanation of genetic test results. No two patients or families are the same - the advice provided is personalised to your specific circumstances.
For most patients and families, a minimum of two consultations (a first and a follow-up, as detailed above) are necessary for a complete evaluation, irrespective of whether genetic testing is arranged. In addition, Dr Verma provides unique expertise in inherited heart disease as a dual-trained clinical geneticist and cardiologist. Thus, our fee structure is necessarily flexible to ensure that we are able to provide a thorough and personalised service.
Each referral is individually triaged, and you will be provided an accurate quote prior to engaging any of our services. Fees quoted include the time required for Dr Verma and the clinical support team to obtain and review medical/genetic test reports for yourself and/or your family members. Payment is required on the day of your consultation or report(s) being finalised. We accept in-person EFTPOS payments and online payments (Visa, Mastercard and AMEX). Medicare benefits only apply to patients:
There is no obligation to engage with our services. If after reading this you prefer to seek genetic evaluation elsewhere, you are welcome to seek referral to another genetics service from your referring practitioner - a list of practices can be found on the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) website:

If your referral meets the referral criteria for the Alfred and/or Victorian Heart Hospital publicly funded clinics that Dr Verma consults at, we will give you the option of redirecting your referral to a public clinic at no cost to you. We offer this as a courtesy to our patients, and this means they do not need to seek re-referral themselves. We have no control over the waitlist at these public clinics but will provide you their contact details.
If your referral is likely to meet the referral criteria of other publicly funded clinics (either in Victoria or elsewhere in Australia) our team will make you aware of this, and you can then discuss this with your referring practitioner.
(Fees above are current as of 1st March 2026)
